Dr. Jeffery B. Cannon’s research program focuses on the causes and consequences of spatial heterogeneity of vegetation in forested systems of the eastern and western U.S. His research seeks to understand how disturbances such as tornadoes and hurricanes and management actions such as prescribed fire alter the spatial structure of forests. In addition, his work examines how spatial patterns in forests influence fuels and fire behavior, abiotic conditions, and regeneration responses. Using tools such as landscape-scale ecological modeling, he is investigating how conservation investments and policy decisions can impact landscape-scale ecological processes.
